Show Racers

 - Whitson Line - Blended Line - Recessive Reds -

Well this is the beginning of my adventure into American Show Racers - "The Bird of Dignity". I hope I can keep mine as I try to break into the winner's circle... LOL Below is the stock that I will start out with for my first season, 2008. I plan to start with two lines basically and develop a third between them in the next few years.

My main concern is that legendary American Show Racer station and dark eye. Station and leg setting are first and foremost in my criteria for breeders, coupled with that tight painted on feather, hard muscular body and a strong muzzle and beak with lots of reach.

I want to concentrate on the standard colors as my long term goal is a family that can compete nationally. But I do want to work on some of the lesser shown colors though. I already have genes in my loft for Brown, Yellow, Indigo, Fade, Recessive Opal and the big one, Recessive Red.

Whitson Family

These birds will be the beginning of my Whitson line. These birds were bred by the partnership of brothers Ralph and Ron Whitson of Tacoma, WA. This partnership has been the undisputed National Champions of ASRs for the last 16 years. I think a quick look at the pictures will tell you why. I will keep this line pure and use them in combination with my Blended family to create a third line. Unfortunately Ron passed away before I had the chance to meet him, but Ralph is quickly becoming my mentor. I am sure he hesitates to answer the phone when it rings now..... LOL

More To Add Later......

11/29/08  - This weekend at the MASRC Bonanza I was able to add two more pure Whitson birds. A real nice blue bar cock the Bob Eveland bred. He is out of a full brother/sister mating out of a direct Whitson pair. The father of this cock was BYC at Sturbridge last year and a full brother won his class at the Bonanza. Bob came out just as I was leaving and gave this bird to me. What a super gesture!!!!!!

I also picked up a pure Whitson hen bred by Bob Perkins; a real nice mismarked blue bar. I don't have any details about her breeding yet.

I also picked up my birds from Kent Wright; all three are very nice. The old hen is exceptional and will definitely be an asset to my loft. I have included these birds here in the Whitson section simply because Kent's family is so dominated by the Whitson blood. They constantly swap birds.

11/23/08 - I have added a few birds from Master Breeder Kent Wright. I put these under the "Whitson" section because they are virtually his bloodlines. Kent and I spoke at the NYBS in Louisville and I purchased two cocks and a hen from him. I just missed getting the BOH from the Michigan National. I did get two real nice young cocks - a black and a blue bar. He also picked out a dark check old hen right from his stock loft for me. I have seen pics of the cocks but have not seen any of the birds in person. They were shipped in a combined shipment to Bob Perkins house and I will pick them up this weekend at the Mid Atlantic Bonanza.

I have also added a nice blue bar OH bred by Ralph that I picked up at the Louisville auction. It was a bird donated by Larry Schulz.

11/05/08 - I have added four more birds from Ralph. I need to take pictures yet, but you won't be disappointed. I told Ralph I wanted another standard colored pair and two colored hens; maybe a recessive opal and a black or andalusian.

Well he didn't have an andalusian hen but sent me a super cock who was a class winner at the Michigan National last year. He did have a recessive opal hen though - she is out of his last two National Champions!!! She is very young but turning out super; better everyday.

The two standard colored birds consist of a beautiful red bar hen - a yearling. She has feathers like a fine coat of paint. I wanted a cock and three hens but Ralph told me he could really send me another super cock if I wanted; I told him it depended on what it was. Well when he said he knew I liked red bars and it was the father to the Michigan National Champion. How could I refuse? He is a SUPER red bar cock. And WOW what a proven breeding record; the father of a National Champion.
