A Glimmer of Hope for Turned Luck !!!!

I think we are going to change the name to
BADLuck loft... some time today before I got home from work a
Coopers hawk crashed through one of the glass windows in the
front of the loft. I had just cleaned hem two days before so I
admit it could have been mistaken for an opening in the loft,
but I thought the glass would repel something the size if a
Coopers. He must have really been hauling butt when he hit it. I
found him dead on the floor in the hallway.
Unfortunately that is
not all I found!!! Before the hawk dies he killed Doubloon
and three others, Kitt - a double Rocket
gr'daughter, Okie - an inbred OHF Aarden hen and a sweet
Hofkens hen I bred. Kitt was bad enough, but the loss of
Doubloon is crushing. he was going to be the base of my
Creator family. I have something in the works to replace
him so stay tuned for details.
On a good note, I am
expecting a shipment from my good friend Ron Deisher. He is
sending a pair out of our Widow's Connection mating, a cock out
of our Creator Family Syndicate III pair and a cock out of his
Gabriel and Faith. They won't make up for the loss
of Doubloon but it will cheer me up some. There is also
another Widow's Connection cock on the horizon - a black cock.
More details later.

GREAT NEWS !!!!! I might just be able to
keep a few. Since moving all the birds out to the show loft,
which has wire floors throughout, I have progressively had less
reaction to the birds. It has been almost two months since I
have had a full blown episode. I have also intentionally been
spending more time with the birds to test my lungs and reaction.
So far no more problems.
What does this mean?
Well I have convinced my family to let me keep a few birds. I am
cautious that the cooler weather and the fact that the molt is
over my be big factors so I may not be over this; only time will
tell.
Luckily most of my
Creator birds have not sold - though three key birds are
gone - so I will concentrate on what I have left of them. My
great friend Ron Deisher has agreed to return Doubloon
and Diamond's Dollar. He is also going to provide me with
two more Creator
cocks - one out of our CFS3 pair, Doubloon and
Princess Cut (pictured below). And a second one off of his
import Spierings pair, Gabriel and Faith.
He is also sending back
Black Powder and Stewardess. Returning these birds
will allow me to continue to participate in the Widow's
Connection and Creator Family Syndicate projects.
My plan is to breed from
a few key pair and see how it goes. It is obvious that I will
never be able to go back to my race loft but maybe I can
continue in some capacity from my original show loft - sending a
few birds out to one loft races and possibly selling some kits
and providing a few race kits for friends. I will certainly keep
you posted.
In the meantime I still have lots of good birds that
I need to get rid of.
I must reduce the numbers for sure.

- Princess Cut arrived today. She
will be rested for a few days and then paired with Doubloon.
You can find more details here,
Creator Family
Syndicate.
She is
here and mated to Doubloon

Ron Deisher of PDQ
Racing Loft has been helping me out quite a bit in establishing
my Creator family. I was able to help Ron pick up
Princess Cut and will be splitting some youngsters as a
result. After she has been with Doubloon awhile she will
be headed back to Ron's. We are calling this the
"Creator Family Syndicate". Jim Sears, Steve Royer and
Harold Lamons are also involved. Another collaborative effort to
improve all of our families and provide inbred stock for the
sport.

09/19/08 - I am on my
way to proving my choice of breeders and the quality of my birds
overall! I had 4th equal 1st at the inaugural Buckeye Challenge.
This was only the 130 mile warm-up race but it was our first one
loft entry, so that is one for one scoring. There were five on
the drop and we were 4th through the clock. This youngster is
out of our Sure Bet stock; the sire is Sure Risk.
I hope this is just the "warm-up" for the 250 mile feature race
to be held next Saturday Sept. 26th. Stay tuned and watch the
reports for 47811!!!
09/28/08 -
WOW !!!!!!! We hit again
!!!! We scored 3rd on the Buckeye Challenge Feature
250 with another Sure Bet Family bird; Sure Sweet
is the dam of this one. This time it was 47807. So we
have been in two races and scored twice with two different
birds; not a bad start.
This was a tough smash
250 miler. No birds on the day; only four the second day and one
the third. I am proud to say our 47811, the equal 1st
finisher from the 130 mile race came home Friday; six days after
the release and one of only 6 birds to return. We were the only
loft to have multiple entries return home from the race. Both of
these birds are from our Sure Bet family.
I have added
several more inbred double grandchildren of Sure Bet to
the stock loft. Be on the look out for some fantastic Sure
Bet great grandchildren soon at working man's prices. See
the new breeder's on the
Sure Bet Stock page.
I are also working on a
Vervoort Hofkens family to add to our Hollywood Hofkens.
Plus we discovered that our foundation Hollywood cock,
Lucky Prince carries the recessive red gene. So watch out
for some recessive red Hofkens in the future!!! This may also
include some recessive reds off of Sure Risk !! See the
new breeder's on the Hollywood
Stock page.
